As this country is sitting at a crossroads of whether we value human life over the right to bear arms, the Supreme Court has shown where they stand. Today, the Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution provides a right to carry a gun outside the home, issuing a major decision on the meaning of the Second Amendment. Shocked, disgusted and extremely frustrated doesn’t even begin to describe how I and many others who have a shred of common sense feel about this decision.
We have seen time and time again that more guns doesn’t equal more safety, if that were the case there would not be this plague of gun violence holding the United States hostage. We would not have to worry about the threat of gun violence while we go about our daily routines and simply try to live our lives.
If guns are going to be more common to carry in public throughout this nation, the least the U.S. Senate can do is vote for H.R. 8 that creates universal background checks. This bill which has sat in the U.S. House of Representatives since last year is a good start down the road to more commonsense gun control that is desperately needed to make our communities safer.
